METO – FORESTRY EXPERTS’ ASSOCIATION

Meto looks after the interests of people employed in the forestry and natural resources fields. Meto is engaged in safeguarding and promoting matters related to its members’ work, earnings, and professional know-how. Meto has a membership of over 8,000. Meto’s members work in the forest sector in a variety of expert tasks, supervisory and managerial positions, and also as independent entrepreneurs. Forestry and natural resources students can also seek to become members of Meto.

Meto’s foremost task is to engage in negotiations with various parties when collective agreements are being concluded. There are altogether ten of these collective agreements. In addition to participating in negotiations, Meto serves its members in employment and unemployment matters, and Meto strives to influence forestry policy and social policy in Finland as well as elsewhere in Europe.

Meto is affiliated with two international forestry organisations.

Nordic Foresters (NF) is the Nordic forestry profession’s collaboration organisation, and its member organisations are based in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.

The Union of European Foresters (UEF) is the European forestry profession’s umbrella organisation with a membership composed of a little over 20 organisations from various European countries. The number of individual members is approx. 80,000. The president of both of these organisations is currently Meto’s president Håkan Nystrand.

Meto’s functions are based on the following values: expertise, sense of responsibility, member-centredness, reliability, and being forward-looking. The satisfaction of its members is a prime concern for METO. Meto strives to see to it that forestry experts continue to enjoy opportunities for practising economically, socially, and ecologically sustainable forestry in Finland. The use of renewable natural resources is a strength and an advantage for Finland as a whole.
